Aiming high

I was talking with a drummer friend about a pair of hi hats I was considering, and he told me that I could make them sound good. And while I’m sure I could, I have no interest in doing that. That got me thinking. Why give myself more work to do later when I could just find something better in the first place?

It’s worth doing yourself a favor whenever possible. Don’t record something that you know you’ll need to fix later. Start with better ingredients, and your audience will taste better pizza. I know I sound like a lazy curmudgeon mix engineer, but my point is that we can all aim higher when we’re creating art that matters.
